How do I access ‘Device Manager’

I wanted to stick to articles that are aimed more towards IT technicians like myself that need to research a problem now and again just to be headed in the right direction but in my article Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 won’t connect to WPA wireless I thought it maybe necessary as part of following the help in the article involves disabling some hardware in the Device Manager and I can imagine a large number of people coming across the problem discussed in that post.

Anyway, it doesn’t take much to access Device Manager, it’s simply a click this, then that and so on, so it’s probably more appropriate to put it in a quick list.

  1. Right click on the ‘My Computer’ icon and click properties. (If the icon isn’t on the desktop click start and it’ll be in that menu, also titled ‘Computer’ if using Vista).
  2. If using Windows XP goto the ‘hardware’ tab and there will be a ‘Device Manager’ button in there, click this. If using vista, ‘Device Manager’ will be situated in the column to the left.

2 steps, that’s all!
